How the foil keeps heat in
Heat leaves hot food three ways, and radiation is the one plain paper cannot stop. A hot shawarma throws off infrared heat in every direction, and ordinary paper lets it pass straight through. Aluminium does the opposite. A foil surface reflects roughly 95% of radiant heat back at whatever produced it. Wrap a shawarma in foil-laminated paper and most of that escaping warmth bounces back into the meat and bread instead of warming the delivery bag.

What the laminate is actually made of
The material is a composite, not a single sheet. A typical build runs paper, a polyethylene bonding layer, then aluminium foil, often capped with another PE layer, fused together by co-extrusion. The paper face takes your print. The PE bonds the layers and adds a moisture seal. The foil does the heat and barrier work. The result handles sauce, grease, oxygen, and heat in one wrap, where a plain sheet manages only one of those.
Where foil is worth it, and where it is not
Foil earns its higher cost on delivery, long takeaway runs, and premium presentation. For those, nothing else holds heat as well.
