When Waxed Deli Paper Is the Right Choice
Standard uncoated deli paper white or brown kraft works for dry and lightly moist fillings. It holds a turkey club or a chicken wrap without issue. The moment you add a sauce that pools, a marinade that soaks, or a filling with high moisture content, uncoated paper starts to fail. It softens, the grease pushes through and the wrap loses its structure before the customer finishes eating.
The wax layer on waxed deli paper creates a barrier on the food side of the sheet. Moisture sits on top of the wax coating rather than absorbing into the paper fiber. The outer surface where your logo is printed stays dry and intact. The wrap holds its structure. The presentation stays clean from counter to customer.
It is not a universal upgrade. Waxed paper is heavier and slightly stiffer than uncoated kraft. For high-speed wrapping at a fast counter, uncoated sheets fold faster. For operations where the quality of the wrap matters as much as the speed of it, waxed deli paper is the correct specification.
Paraffin Wax or Soy Wax – Which to Choose

Paraffin wax coating is the standard option. It gives consistent moisture resistance across the full sheet, holds at room temperature service conditions and is available at standard wholesale pricing. It is petroleum-derived and not compostable.
Soy wax coating is the eco option. It performs identically to paraffin under food service conditions – same moisture barrier, same print quality on the outer surface. The difference is that soy wax is plant-derived, biodegradable and compostable. It suits operations with sustainability credentials, eco-certified supply chains or customers who ask about packaging materials.
If you are unsure which to specify, request a sample of both before placing a production order. The surface feel is slightly different and some buyers have a preference based on how the paper handles at their counter.

No. Waxed deli paper is not oven safe. The wax coating melts above 200 degrees Fahrenheit and the paper degrades under sustained heat. It should not go into a microwave and should not sit near a heat lamp for more than a few minutes. For oven and baking applications, silicone-coated parchment paper is the correct specification.
It depends on your counter speed and your filling types. Waxed sheets are slightly stiffer than uncoated kraft, which means they fold with a little more resistance at high speed. For counters doing 150 or more wraps per hour, uncoated white or brown kraft sheets are faster to work with. For counters where the filling is wet or heavily sauced and the quality of the finished wrap matters, waxed deli paper is worth the slight adjustment in handling.
